For Activists With Arafat, a Whiff of Relief (washingtonpost.com)
The activists, who operate under the name International Solidarity Movement, say they believe that by putting themselves in the line of fire, they will cause Israel to use more restraint than it would if dealing only with Palestinians. So they have slept in Arafat's offices, even posting a few people to curl up on blankets outside his room at night.I wonder if they even realize--especially if their delusion is true--that they illustrate perfectly that Palestinian accusations of Israeli atrocities are lies. After all, if Israel was as despicable as the Arabs portray, why would they care about grinding up a few "peace activists"? It is an illustration of a fundamentally decent society that activists like this can function at all. The mind boggles over what would happen if they tried such tactics in, say, Iraq, Iran, or even Saudi Arabia.
